The Gravesham People web site is an oral history project conceived to capture, preserve and share first-hand accounts of life in the Borough of Gravesham from a broad cross-section of residents of all ages past and present.
Initiated by Gravesham Borough Council with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the site features video, audio and text interviews, delivered in an easy-to-use interface. Memories are organised under a series of themes including working, learning, shopping and moving to Gravesham, and the Gravesend-based council heritage team plan to add new contributions by inviting people to visit the site, and by taking cameras out into the street. The site has seed content with the potential to grow indefinitely. In a largely ephemeral age it provides an ideal way to record contemporary life in Gravesham for generations to follow.
Gravesham People is the latest of many cultural and heritage projects in the DOT portfolio. DOT have designed the visual identity for the project, and a poster and map to promote the site.
