DOT are partnering with landscape architects Allen Scott to deliver branding, landscaping, interpretation and a major visitor centre at Wat Tyler Country Park in Pitsea near Basildon, Essex. Wat Tyler is strategically important as one of the first green spaces to be developed in line with the department for Communities and Local Government's Parklands plan in the Thames Gateway, described as Europe's largest regeneration project.
Wat Tyler will be designed as an Eco-friendly exemplar for sustainable development programmes that follow. DOT will design branding and a major exhibition space at the park, interlinked with interpretive trails designed by Scott-Allen, and a media-rich web site.
The contract was awarded after a paid creative pitch where the team presented ideas for branding, landscaping and interpretation developed with very close links based on the principle of "one thing leads to another" informing the branding and running through every aspect of the design.
Design work begins immediately and is expected to be complete in around four months. Construction and development work on site is scheduled for completion in 2009.
DOT developed the branding and the web site for the Motorboat Museum at Wat Tyler Country Park in 2003, and designed the visitor centre and signage at Norsey Wood, Billericay in 2005.
