Decorating
Wallpaperdirect is the leading online retailer for wallcoverings. We worked closely with Brewers (the UK's largest independent decorating store chain) to design the original site in 2000, featuring thousands of wallpapers and borders from all the major UK manufacturers from its inception.

The site has evolved over a decade to become the most successful online retail site in its sector, and has continuously evolved to develop a sophisticated but straightforward sales approach. DOT's close relationship with the Brewers wallcoverings team has given us a thorough understanding of the product and the market which has informed the design of the iterative interface innovations (like the simple, beautifully produced roomsets and wallpaper roll images) that distinguish wallpaperdirect.

The back end provides comprehensive tools for product, news, sales and customer management, allowing a small team to manage around 40,000 products, a transparently linking into Brewers' legacy systems.

Wallpaperdirect's sister site is designerpaint, and DOT have designed and developed the designerpaint site alongside wallpaperdirect for many years. Brewers' independence means designerpaint can offer customers the widest range of tinted paints from the widest range of brands online.

Paint is a highly technical product sold as a combination of finish, colour and size, and designerpaint has been designed to get customers to the right product for their needs as painlessly as possible. DOT have contributed simple innovations like providing a sticky label with every tin of paint sold so customers can remember which tint they've used where.

Online retail in the paint sector is growing, and designerpaint is well positioned to be one of the major players.

Taxis
Lewes Taxis is an ambitious cab company in East Sussex. DOT developed the Lewes Taxis web site to allow the company to take bookings online in 2009. The site uses a Google Maps interface to calculate mileages which are fed into fares calculations and matches the right kind of vehicle to the number of passengers and luggage based on a fleet availability calendar. The back end provides comprehensive management tools for the mobile team, and online bookings are growing steadily.
